   vernum: print the version number of a program

   vernum(input: in, output: out)


   input: a program source code, with a version constant in the form
       "version = " followed by a real number.

   output: the new version number is reported.
      If there is none, the program reports 0.

   The program finds the version number of a file and reports it to
   output for the purpose of saving copies.
